amelia enderson was born into a privileged life. following her older sister, andrea, her father had hoped she was a boy. realizing he wouldn't have time in his busy budding political career to get his wife pregnant another time, he settled for his two daughters; but he vowed that he would raise them to be just as ambitious and power hungry as he would've done to his son. and so andrea and amelia were put into the best schools, the best afterschool activities, and bred to be proper (but ruthless) young ladies. they were never denied anything they asked for, so long as they rememebered that their father's word was law. quite literally, it turned out.
raised between washington dc and philadelphia meant that there was never a lot of consistency in amelia's life. she held close to her sister as the backbone of the family, since both of their parents were too busy with their jobs to really pay attention. instead it was a life of nannies and tutors for the girls. they followed their parents every command; from earning excellent grades to being fluent in multiple languages by their teen years. it was clear that both girls had bright futures ahead of them. andrea fell in love with science like their mother, while amelia took the political route like their father. at the time, gregory was serving as a representative for pennsylvania and using all of his resources to move up in the political world. from a young age, both girl were aware of the risky career their fahter had chosen and were under their best behavior.
since it was clear andrea was going to be the "daughter", gregory set his aspirations into amelia. she went to penn, earned her law degree and was about to start her own political endeavors when tragedy struck. andrea had been engaged to the son of a powerful ceo's son. he fit in well enough with the ambitious enderson's. in the summer of 2011, andrea's car was hit head on and she died on impact. devastated, the entire family grieved and none of them ever fully recovered from the loss. it was after her funeral and wake that amelia and her sister's fiance, locke laufeyson, were summoned to meet with their father's. it turned out that both men were going to use the marriage of andrea and locke to further their own careers, and since plans had been set into motion, they weren't about to let them fail now. it was basically ordered that the two of them would get married and inherit norse industries from locke's father, or both be cut off and disowned. amelia knew she couldn't risk that with her loans and lavish lifestyle, and she was sure locke would agree because of the prospect of owning his father's company. after an appropriate year and half of mourning and "courtship", amelia and locke were married in an extravagant wedding. both were wonderful actors, because behind the scenes they couldn't stand each other.
married life was not how she pictured it, at all. she was told to hold up her appearance as a housewife, thus making her law degree useless. instead of doing nothing with her time while her husband worked non-stop and paid no attention to her (not like she wanted the attention, anyway), amelia went back to school in her new home in boston. she figured that if she earned a business related degree, then locke would let her in on business affairs. that wasn't the case. if anything, locke grew more distant and it annoyed amelia even more. finally one day she stormed into his office and demanded he let her in on business affairs. apparently, this was the best way to earn his respect and they came to a deal that amelia would remain the trophy wife symbol, but help him run the business behind the scenes. together, they make a formidable pair. they still don't particularly care for one another, but in the public eye, no one would ever know that. their relationship is hardly perfect. they're horrible to one another, both with tempers and violent streaks. but there is a mutual respect and the notion that they are both stuck in this for now. unless they can find a way out of it. which neither one of them have done yet. do instead, they're making the best of it by transforming norse industries into something new and more powerful than either of their damn father's could've done. waiting for the day they can show their father's that by forcing them together all they did was create a whole new type of monster.
